Supplies and Tools Needed for Alcohol Stove Construction
There are many ways to construct a pot stand and you may wish to visit our Pot Stands Page for ideas. Here are some common items used when constructing some of the more common stands.
Sheet metal - many pot stand designs use aluminum sheet as the main supporting component and integral windscreen. Sheet metal such as disposable pie pans or aluminum flashing are commonly used.

Stainless steel may also be used for pot stand construction, but will generally make a heavier stand. Thin stainless steel is is harder to find for the average DIYer. But if you really want to use stainless steel or even titanium, you can purchase foil or "shim" in different thicknesses from various suppliers.
Hole punch - used for making ventilation and/or to make ports for rod supports
Graph paper - to map out cuts, ventilation and port holes and keep things square
Rivet tool and 1/8 inch aluminum rivets - for pot stand designs that are riveted together
Real Drill - if you are using the mini Dremel mentioned in Hole Making (which will slowly and painfully work if this is all you have), you may want to use a real drill to drill out holes for rivets)
1/8 inch Drill Bit - if using 1/8" rivets
Wire bender such as this one from LeeValley Tools - this wire bending jig you can bend mild steel wire up to 3/16" or 5mm diameter into many shape. Best if held in a vise (or mounted). This tool is great for shaping metal rods used for wire pot stands.
